ASSEMBLY POLLS | J&K to vote in three phases from Sept 18, Haryana on Oct 1; result on Oct 4

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced the schedule for the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.

Jammu and Kashmir will vote in three phases from September 18, while Haryana will vote on October 1. The counting of votes in both states will be held on October 4.

The announcement of the election schedule comes after the ECI held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the matter.

The ECI had earlier announced that the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana would be held in October-November. However, the exact dates were not announced then.

The Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are being held after the state was placed under President’s rule in June 2018. The state was placed under President’s rule after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) withdrew its support from the coalition government led by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Assembly elections in Haryana are being held after the state government led by the BJP completed its five-year term.

The ECI has announced that it will take all necessary steps to ensure that the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana are held in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

The ECI has also announced that it will be using electronic voting machines (EVMs) in all the polling stations in both states.

The ECI has appealed to all political parties and candidates to adhere to the Model Code of Conduct during the election period.

The Model Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines issued by the ECI to ensure that the elections are held in a fair and peaceful manner.

The ECI has also appealed to all voters to come out and vote in large numbers.

The ECI has said that it will be monitoring the election process closely and will take strict action against anyone who tries to disrupt the elections.
