Great Gatsby: Bar in Cape Town feeds 120 patrons with 63kg sub

Annie’s Ladies Bar’s Gargantuan Gatsby Sets a Possible Record

In a remarkable culinary feat, Annie Redelinghuys, her husband Joe, and chef Michael Steyn of Annies Ladies Bar have potentially set a record for the largest Gatsby ever created. The colossal sub weighed an astounding 63kg, stretched approximately 4 meters in length, and was composed of four one-meter-long buns baked specifically for the occasion.

A Celebration for Over 100 Guests

The Redelinghuys couple celebrated their Gatsby triumph by hosting a grand feast for over 100 witnesses, who enjoyed the culinary masterpiece on the house. This gastronomic spectacle marks the third record-breaking meal dish served by Annies, following their previous accomplishments with massive burgers.

In 2019, they crafted what they claimed to be the largest burger in South Africa, weighing 79.5kg with a 40kg patty and an 800mm-diameter homemade bun. Their second colossal burger boasted two 40kg patties and weighed an impressive 123kg.

While the Gatsby’s record-breaking status remains unverified by an official organization, the Redelinghuys couple believes it may be a world record. TygerBurger’s investigation into existing records proved unfruitful.

A Legacy of Culinary Extravagance

Annies Ladies Bar has established a reputation for pushing culinary boundaries. Their record-breaking ventures serve as a testament to their passion for bold and innovative gastronomy. The giant Gatsby represents not only an impressive feat of cooking but also a testament to the power of community and shared enjoyment.

As people continue to flock to Annies to witness the legendary Gatsby, the Redelinghuys couple and chef Michael Steyn will undoubtedly continue to innovate and delight their patrons with new culinary adventures.
