Tragic Loss: British Event Rider Georgie Campbell Dies After Fall from Horse at Bicton International Horse Trials

The equestrian community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of British event rider Georgie Campbell, 37, who succumbed to fatal injuries following a fall from her horse at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon on Sunday, May 26.

Immediate Medical Response and Event Suspension

Medical professionals provided immediate medical assistance at the scene of the fall at fence 5b, but despite their efforts, Georgie’s life could not be saved. The horse, Global Quest, was assessed by on-site vets and returned unharmed to the stable.

Out of respect for Georgie’s family, no further details of the incident will be shared.

A Distinguished Equestrian Career

Prior to her transition to eventing, Georgie was a highly accomplished show jumper, representing Great Britain on Nations Cup teams and competing in five-star events. She transitioned to eventing and accumulated over 200 eventing competitions throughout her career, securing six victories, including the 4-star Long at Lignieres with Global Quest in 2022.

Joint Venture with Fellow Equestrian

In December 2020, Georgie married fellow equestrian Jesse Campbell, a member of the New Zealand team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Together, they established Team Campbell Eventing.

Outpouring of Condolences

Fans and members of the equestrian community have expressed their profound sorrow and left messages of condolence on Georgie’s Instagram profile.

“RIP Georgie, a remarkable rider with so much passion for the sport,” wrote one fan.

“Rest easy Georgie – greatly missed by a massive community,” added another.

Investigation and Further Details

Devon and Cornwall Police have been notified and are handling the investigation. The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
