Premier League: Who is the referee and VAR for Manchester United vs Fulham?

Manchester United to Kick Off 2024/25 Premier League Season Against Fulham, Rob Jones Appointed as Referee

Manchester United is gearing up for the 2024/25 Premier League season opener against Fulham at Old Trafford. Erik ten Hag’s squad has undergone a summer revamp with the arrival of four new signings: Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui. These additions aim to bolster United’s performance after last season’s disappointing eighth-place finish.

In a repeat of last season’s fixture, Fulham, who emerged victorious in the 2024 FA Cup, will face Manchester United on the opening day. The Cottagers secured an impressive win last time around, with Alex Iwobi scoring a late goal to claim the scalp.

Ahead of the highly anticipated clash, the officials tasked with overseeing the match have been announced.

Rob Jones to Referee Manchester United v Fulham

Rob Jones from Merseyside will officiate the opening game of the 2024/25 Premier League season between Manchester United and Fulham. Jones, 39, joined the Premier League refereeing ranks in 2019, debuting in the Brighton and Hove Albion vs Sheffield United match.

Jones has a history of officiating Manchester United matches, having overseen eight games. The Red Devils boast a record of five wins, two losses, and one draw under his watch, including last season’s FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, which United won on penalties.

Jones awarded a penalty against Manchester United in their game against Coventry due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s handling in the area. However, he has not awarded a spot-kick to United in the eight matches he has officiated, while allowing two for their opponents.

Ian Hussin and Simon Bennett will assist Jones as linesmen during the match.

Jarred Gillett on VAR Duties

Jarred Gillett has been appointed as Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for Fulham’s visit to Old Trafford. The Australian has made a strong impression since moving from the A-League to the Premier League.

Gillett recently officiated Manchester United’s Community Shield defeat against Manchester City. He will be supported by Darren Cann as his Assistant Video Referee, with Anthony Taylor serving as fourth official.

Manchester United fans can expect an exciting start to the 2024/25 Premier League season as they aim to improve upon last season’s performance and challenge for the title.
