Brand-New School Opens in Jacksonville, Welcoming New Students
Chaffee Trail Middle School, a brand-new educational institution on the city’s west side, is now open and ready to welcome its first wave of students. The school anticipates welcoming at least 600 students on Monday, drawing them from Charger Academy and Baldwin Middle-Senior High School. Chaffee Trail Middle School has a capacity of over 1,100 students and hopes to continue enrolling more.
Excitement and Anticipation among Parents and Students
Parents and prospective students expressed great anticipation for the commencement of the 2024-2025 academic year at Chaffee Trail Middle School. One incoming seventh-grader, Dylan Lozadamorles, was particularly enthusiastic about attending the new school, especially since some of his friends would also be there. His family was able to secure authorization for him to attend Chaffee Middle School.
Michael Mas Sr., another parent, expressed his family’s optimism about the school’s prospects and their belief that it would be a promising learning environment for his son, Michael Mas Jr., who would be starting his middle school journey at Chaffee.
State-of-the-Art Facility and Focus on Safety
School officials highlighted that Chaffee Trail Middle School is the first middle school to be constructed in Jacksonville since 2008. Its development was enabled by the “Half-Penny Sales Tax” approved by voters in November 2020. The school’s design and construction budget was approximately $56 million, with a strong emphasis on ensuring the safety of students and faculty members.
Dr. Christopher Bernier, Duval County’s new superintendent, and Dr. Tyson-White, the principal of Chaffee Trail Middle School, were present for the ribbon-cutting ceremony that marked the official opening of DCPS’s newest educational institution.
