Football in Ukraine
National Team
The Ukrainian national football team represents Ukraine in international football and is controlled by the Ukrainian Association of Football, the governing body for football in Ukraine. Ukraine’s home matches are played at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex in Kyiv.
Premier League
The Ukrainian Premier League is the top level of professional football in Ukraine. The league was founded in 1991 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union and is contested by 16 teams. The current champions are Shakhtar Donetsk, who have won the league a record 13 times.
Ukrainian Cup
The Ukrainian Cup is the national cup competition of Ukraine. The cup was first contested in 1992 and is open to all professional and amateur clubs in Ukraine. The current holders are Dynamo Kyiv, who have won the cup a record 13 times.
First League
The Ukrainian First League is the second level of professional football in Ukraine. The league was founded in 1992 and is contested by 18 teams. The current champions are FC Lviv, who won the league in 2020–21.
Second League
The Ukrainian Second League is the third level of professional football in Ukraine. The league was founded in 1992 and is contested by 24 teams. The current champions are FC Polissya Zhytomyr, who won the league in 2020–21.
Ukrainians Abroad
There are a number of Ukrainian footballers who play abroad, including Andriy Yarmolenko (West Ham United), Oleksandr Zinchenko (Manchester City), and Roman Yaremchuk (Benfica).
Futsal
Futsal is a variant of association football that is played indoors on a hard court. Ukraine has a strong futsal team, which has won the UEFA Futsal Championship twice.
