Tara Davis-Woodhall captures first Olympic gold of career in women’s long jump

Tara Davis-Woodhall Wins First Olympic Gold of 2024

American long jumper Tara Davis-Woodhall has captured the first Olympic gold medal of the 2024 Paris Games, jumping 7.10 meters to defeat reigning champion Malaika Mihambo of Germany.

Davis-Woodhall, 25, was a frontrunner for the event after winning gold at the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Budapest earlier this year. She did not disappoint, delivering a series of impressive jumps throughout the competition.

After her final jump, Davis-Woodhall fell back into the sand in celebration, taking in the moment. She then ran to her husband, Paralympian Hunter Woodhall, and they shared an emotional embrace.

Mihambo took silver in the event with a jump of 6.98 meters, while Team USA’s Jasmine Moore secured bronze with a jump of 6.96 meters.

This long jump performance from Davis-Woodhall is a significant improvement over her Toyko Olympics results, where she finished sixth. Despite dealing with a bone bruise in her heel, she overcame adversity to claim the gold medal.

Davis-Woodhall’s Olympic triumph adds to her impressive career accomplishments, which include numerous national titles and international medals. She has established herself as one of the top long jumpers in the world and is a role model for aspiring athletes.
