Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is poised to become the highest-paid player in the NFL when his next contract is eventually signed. However, the Cowboys have shown no rush to extend him, which could prove costly for them and lucrative for Prescott.

According to a rumor from Mike Fisher of Athlon Sports, Prescott could land a deal worth $70 million per year if he shows “patience.” The number frequently mentioned in discussions about Prescott’s contract has been $60 million APY, but $70 million was also mentioned earlier in the offseason.

If Prescott were to land $70 million per season, he would shatter the current record. The highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL are currently Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, and Jordan Love, who each earn $55 million per year.

Prescott had one of the best seasons of his career last year, throwing for 4,516 yards, an NFL-leading 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He was named second-team All-Pro and earned a nod to his third Pro Bowl.
