Background

During routine inspections as part of the 2024 “Official Control of Microbiological Food Safety Criteria” Program, EFET collected a sample of the fresh beef patty for laboratory analysis. The sample was tested at the EFET Food Testing and Research Laboratory in Thessaloniki, where the presence of Salmonella spp. was confirmed.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause food poisoning in humans. Symptoms of Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, nausea, and vomiting. In severe cases, Salmonella infection can lead to hospitalization or even death.

Recall Action

Upon confirmation of the Salmonella contamination, EFET immediately demanded the recall of the entire affected lot of the beef patty product. The manufacturer is currently conducting the necessary controls to ensure the complete removal of the contaminated product from the market.

Consumers who have purchased the affected product are advised not to consume it and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Health Implications

Salmonella infection can pose a serious health risk, especially for children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. It is important to follow safe food handling practices, such as thoroughly cooking meat and poultry, washing hands frequently, and avoiding cross-contamination of foods, to prevent Salmonella infection.

EFET is closely monitoring the recall process and will provide updates as necessary. Consumers with any questions or concerns are advised to contact EFET or the manufacturer of the affected product.
