Egypt raises emergency level due to monkeypox

Egypt has raised its emergency level and activated health precautions at land, sea, and air crossings in response to the World Health Organization’s declaration of monkeypox as a public health emergency of international concern.

The Ministry of Health and Population announced the heightened state of alert and the implementation of preventive measures at all quarantine departments in airports, seaports, and land border crossings to prevent the entry of contagious diseases into the country.

The decision comes after the WHO declared monkeypox, previously known as M Pox, a global health emergency. The ministry’s strategy is to maintain preventive measures and precautions at quarantine departments to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Monkeypox is transmitted through close contact, primarily through direct exposure to skin lesions, contaminated clothing, or respiratory droplets. Infection typically results in a painful rash and blisters on the palms of the hands.
